The Thirteenth gathering of Gentlemen Wine Snobs took place January 6th, 2026 at a member’s private home in Naples and included an illustrious assortment of gorgeous French Rhone wines and a bonus Bekka Valley wine from Lebanon. The Gents continued the evening with a delicious and decadent dinner featuring Lebanese cuisine provided by Chef Rachid of Kareems Lebanese Kitchen in Naples.

Our next gathering is scheduled at one of our member’s private home in Naples.

Theme: Wine Pairing – BBQ

Gents,

As high season continues, our group will shift toward wine-pairing–focused dinners hosted in private member homes. January kicked off at my home with a Lebanese Food and Wine Pairing, followed by February at Alvin’s, March at Joe H.’s, and April at… [your name here]?

We all know Alvin of our Gents group to be intelligent, thoughtful and a fine wine aficionado, but did you know Alvin is a BBQ Pit Master??

This February, Alvin, as host, invites you to his home for a wine-pairing dinner featuring BBQ cuisine, crafted and chef’d by Alvin himself.  Dinner is complimentary from your host.

What to Bring
Each gent is asked to bring a gorgeous bottle to share and discuss—aligned with this month’s pairing theme: BBQ cuisine. 

St. Louis pork ribs, dry brined

Rub is a classic rub, primary ingredients are:

sweet paprika, ground cumin, ground chipotle powder, turbinado sugar, ancho chili powder, onion powder, dried thyme, Colemans mustard, garlic powder, green pepper corn, white pepper, celery seed, dried marjoram, cayenne pepper, some additional ingredients for accents.

Ribs are smoked 3-2-1 with the final hour to set a maple and honey glaze with a sprinkle of pickling spice.

(Sides will be collard greens and German potato salad).

Wine Requirements

Style: Red, White or sparkling (Dry or Sweet or in between)

Origin: Anywhere in the world

White: Minimum market value $100+, vintage 2023 or older

Red: Minimum market value $125+, vintage 2021 or older

Your mission:  

Find the best wine in the world to complement this often challenging cuisine.  Consider this a true exercise in “Food and Wine Pairing”.  Be mindful of the chef’s selection of meat, spices and cooking style as well as the crafty play on sweet n spicy flavors.  Do your research! The Gent who brings the voted best pairing wine of the evening – will take home a prize and receive a 1 time only discount for my latest wine group for couples…
