The Fourteenth gathering of Gentlemen Wine Snobs took place February 17th, 2026 at a member’s private home in Naples and included an illustrious assortment of gorgeous wines ranging from a Paso Robles Primitivo to German Riesling (Spatlese) paired with an extraordinary BBQ Rib dinner.

Our next gathering is scheduled at one of our member’s private offices in Naples.

Theme: Merlot (a riff on the movie Sideways). “I am NOT drinking any f**king Merlot!“

Gents,

As high season continues, our group will shift toward wine dinners hosted in private member homes. January kicked off at my home with a Lebanese Food and Wine Pairing, followed by February at Alvin’s, March at David’s , and April at Joe G’s home. May at Joe H (tbd).

We all know David of our Gents group to be intelligent, thoughtful and a fine wine aficionado, but did you know David also loves Merlot and wine comedy movies that predate his birth?

This March, David, as host, invites you to his office for a Merlot Centric Tasting and Dinner.  Dinner is complimentary from your host. Cuisine and caterer TBD.

What to Bring
Each gent is asked to bring a gorgeous bottle to share and discuss—aligned with this month’s theme: Merlot from anywhere in the world. Think, Right Bank Bordeaux, Bolgheri, California, Washington, Northern Italy, or other creative places. Host has requested this will be a blind tasting.

Wine Requirements

Style: Merlot Dominant Wine 70% or more blend.

Origin: Anywhere in the world

Red: Minimum market value $150+, vintage 2018 or older

Your mission:  

Find the best Merlot wine in the world!  Consider this a true exercise in “Sourcing”.  Be mindful of vintage and $ minimum.  Do your research! Start now! This will be a challenge for those Gents sourcing the big box retailers.
